Dr Alastair Mather

Alastair graduated from Massey University, New Zealand, in 2010. After four years of general mixed/large animal practice in the rural South Island of NZ, he travelled to the UK, where he discovered his passion for small animal surgery.
By 2019 he had concluded internships at both The University of Edinburgh and Anderson Abercromby Veterinary Referrals in Sussex. He then commenced a surgical residency training position at The University of Bristol. Following this residency, where he gained his Masters degree, he spent time working at both The University of Bristol and Anderson Abercromby Veterinary Referrals before emigrating to Geelong.
Alastair is passionate about all aspects of small animal orthopaedic surgery. He also enjoys managing soft tissue surgical cases and has a particular interest in thoracic surgery. Alastair has published research on the surgical approach to the accessory lung lobe and presented this work at the annual European College of Veterinary Surgeons Congress in 2023.
Outside of work Alastair enjoys keeping fit, surfing, and the outdoors.
