Neurological surgery
What is neurosurgery?
Neurological surgery is performed on the brain and spine and requires the expertise of skilled animal surgeon professionals.
Sadly, spinal diseases and injuries are very common in dogs and cats. These injuries can be devastating for both pets and their owners, especially when not treated appropriately. Many pets may completely lose their ability to walk.
Intervertebral disc disease is the most common problem, but we also treat vertebral fractures and luxation and some cysts and tumours which necessitate timely intervention by veterinary oncologists and internal medicine veterinary specialists. Symptoms are highly variable, ranging from neck or back pain, to loss of balance and strength in the limbs.
Thankfully, with prompt investigation and treatment, outcomes are frequently excellent. Three-dimensional imaging is extremely important for the investigation of spinal diseases.
At GARS we are fortunate to have both Computed Tomography (CT), Magnetic Resonance Imaging (MRI) on site to allow us to rapidly localize spinal problems and make a diagnosis as well as plan surgery. Our MRI is particularly useful for diseases of the brain. Some of these conditions may also be treated with surgery. IVDD surgeries is just one of the procedures our team performs.
